The History Then and Now …..

Located at the junction of the Madawaska and Ottawa rivers, Arnprior was founded in 1831. Its early settlers were predominantly Scottish and were established under a feudal system by Scottish Highland Chief McNab.

Known as the town of two beautiful rivers it was named Arnprior that same year by the Buchanan brothers. The name is derived from Priory on the Arn – a priory being a monastic house and the arn a small stream in Sterlingshtre, Scotland.
